First Lady ... Belle of the inauguration Ball

Fashion news in the papers today - Victoria Beckham, Michelle Obama, Jason Wu

As this week saw Barack Obama become US President, I thought it was only fitting to pay tribute...to his wife Michelle.

I won't claim to be an expert on politics so instead I want to pay homage to Michelle Obama and her beautiful Jason Wu gown and Jimmy Choo shoes worn to her husbands inauguration Ball in Washington this week. It's nice to see a younger, more down to earth couple in the White house, bringing a touch of style into an otherwise stressful and highly powerful role. Could this First lady be American's new answer to a style icon for the middle class, middle aged American women? (goodness knows its about time!) Could she be the twenty first Century Jackie O?

I suppost this post could be described as 'frivolous'; discussing anelegant women's style when her husband's effectively controlling global issues, but hey...she is the most famous 'other half' in the world at the moment...and I am a Fashion student after all......

  2. Amy: Thank you for raising such a topical issue regarding the First Lady's style! I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment. Did you read however in the American press that she was criticized for not changing her wardrobe [as is usually the practice] for each of the 10 inaugural balls that she attended? She also promoted American designers [well except for the Jimmy Choos-or is he American too?]. I think this woman is someone to watch as she speaks [right now anyway] for the average woman who may not have the budget to blow on an extensive couture wardrobe when many Americans cannot afford basic health care or access a decent stardard of education.Credit crunch couture with a social conscience! She also didn't flinch when her husband stepped on her ball gown. Please keep this theme going...for the average professional working woman like Michelle and me!
